Vlog #8 – Nervousness is Trying to Get the Best of Me

Today is my day 8 of the vlogging challenge and day 4/5 of the planning challenge. I’ve been doing well with getting my planning done, but I’m having another issue today. Maybe you’ve had a similar problem and can offer some advice?

I got my Blue Yeti today! I love it. The quality is great and you’ll get to hear it in tomorrow’s vlog. I’ve gotta figure out how to get my Windows Movie Maker to pick up audio from it and figure out where to set the gain with where I normally records. That quality is worth every penny! Next I’ll order an HD webcam and my capture box for recording video games gameplay.

Aren’t the yetis cute? I went back and got a screenshot in case you couldn’t see them very well.

My favorite has to be the guitar yeti. lol

I blogged about the results of the Squidoo survey and people really liked learning a bit about where most members of Squidoo are. I think that information is helpful to anyone on Squidoo. It’s easy to feel like you’re not doing as well as everyone else when in fact most people are at about the same levels for both how many lenses they have and how much money they’re making. My Squidoo guide is now fully outlined and I’ve got a list of blog posts for the next two weeks on SquidsPro.

I recently wrote a new Zujava leaf. I mention what Zujava is in the video. I like to create a Squidoo lens, like One Direction Gifts, and then create a leaf or two on a more niche but related topic. I make money from Zujava and it gets traffic to my Squidoo lens. My new leaf is about One Direction Stocking Stuffers and has already been getting a nice trickle of Google traffic.

Yesterday’s new PLR pack was on video game consoles and the articles are long, in-depth reviews of the current systems. I’ve been writing more video game PLR to help get me in the right mindset to write about video games for my blog as well as to get me researching video game news daily. I figure I need to get into the habit now!

I’m really nervous about this site and I’m not totally sure why. I’m going to push myself even if I’m nervous because I know I’ll enjoy the video game blog. I guess I could use some advice if any of you have had a similar issue though!

  1. You’re nervous BECAUSE of your passion. You want to have it go right. Other niches may be profitable, may even interest you, but it’s not a passion like gaming.

It’s okay my friend – do it afraid – the courage will come later!

    • Ya, I guess the idea of failing at something I enjoy so much is kind of scary! I just keep reminding myself that I won’t fail. I’m passionate about the subject and I know enough about blogging to be able to get people TO my blog. My passion will show and they’ll want to keep coming back!

  2. I think you hit the nail on the head about why this new site is making you more nervous. You’re already invested in gaming so to talk about and blog about it especially is to both increase your investment and your visibility.

That can most definitely be harder. Suggestion – you’re comfortable writing so create a composite person and answer their questions about gaming. Then you at least will have your focus somewhere else instead of on the nervousness.

  3. I went through this with my Kindle book. I think it’s a sign that it’s really important to you, and you want to do it justice. It’s tough, but it’s worth sticking out. What’s the worst that can happen? Posted a response to this in my vlog today 🙂

  4. Nervousness is a great thing! If you’re NOT nervous something’s wrong! I think you’re on to something by saying you don’t want to fail. In this book that I’m reading (I Could Do Anything…) the author talks about how your body/mind naturally wants to protect you from any danger. So the resistance is there because there is a chance of failure.

However, you won’t fail because it’s something you love and are knowledgeable about! But as you know you just need to push past those feelings. Easier said than done right lol? 🙂

  6. I think you rock, Amanda!

You’re nervous, but you’re going to plunge forward and get it done!

I would love to know what video games you play! I miss City of Heroes and City of Villains and they’ve just closed their doors for good November 30.

Now, I play over at Star Wars. 🙂

  7. Firstly – What a massive microphone!!! Wow – that will certainly do some damage. Don’t let the cats near it.

Second – I hadn’t heard of Zujava before. Looks interesting. If I can find the time, I would love to try out this platform, but I am just about getting my Squidoo lenses done so it might have to wait a while.

Third – You will do great with your new gaming blog. The excitment is causing the worry but once you get started, I am sure it will all melt away. Good luck with it.

  8. Amanda,

My son is the gamer in our house. Me? I still have my Atari, 🙂

I used to spend hours playing Mario Brothers with him on I think, Nintendo, and he got me back into a few of the games when the Xbox 360 came out. Other than that, there’s a few RPG games and others that I watch him play, but I just don’t anymore.

I think when we start any blog, we realize that first and foremost, it’s going to be a time commitment. And that makes me nervous from the standpoint of first, do I HAVE enough time?, second,Do I KNOW enough about the topic to build an entire website, and then third, the all-important (and most nerve-racking) is will people give a damn about what I have to say? 🙂

No matter where we are on any topic, there’s always gonna be people who know more than us. So just keep in mind that there are also a ton of people who know a whole lot less too. And you have a lot of information and experience that you can offer those people so go for it!

    • I’ve always believed there is room for everyone provided you provide something honest, interesting, and/or entertaining. There is always SOMEONE out there who will want to know what you are sharing. The key is providing great content for them to find and to keep putting out great content so they’ll stay.
