Work and Health Update 1/25/13

I’ve been talking to some of you on Facebook, Twitter, and G+ but I wanted to take some time to update you guys on some things going on with me when it comes to my work and health. Things are crazy as always but I’ve managed to keep things under control for the most part.

My Back Injury

ouchI mentioned back in December that I hurt my back. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. It was some kind of muscle strain and it just keeps hurting. It’s getting more manageable but it doesn’t stop hurting. I’ll be going to physical therapy to strengthen the core muscles in my back and hopefully that will help. Until recently I was supposed to avoid too much walking even but now I just can’t lift or bend.

Because of my back injury I stopped working out which has really hurt my productivity and general mood. Starting this morning I’m back to my regular walks because that’s all I’m really cleared to do. I’m hoping that at least will get me feeling better and being more productive.

The biggest problem for me is that it hurts to sit for very long so I am spending less time working. I’m trying to use the type as wisely as possible. I can’t wait to get all of this taken care of!

A few of you signed up for Zujava to do the February Zujava Challenge with me. That’s awesome! You guys can still sign up and join in. Even if you don’t get out of the Petting Zu before the first you can create leaves to publish when you’re out.

I also got promoted to “Zumbassador” over there. A Zumbassador is kind of a mix between a mod and a Giant Squid from Squidoo. I can delete spam from the forums and I also have the ability to “love” a leaf which is a super powered like. I can also report leaves directly to the admins. Basically, a Zumbassador helps the good leaves rise to the top and points out leaves breaking the rules to the admins. It’s nice getting involved over there!

Oh, I can also happily say that one of the people who I referred to Zujava just graduated the Petting Zu and wrote some great leaves. I wanted to share one with you guys. Go over and support her!

Daryl Dixon: The Best Walking Dead Character Ever

I think I liked that lens best because I’m really missing new Walking Dead episodes. (What about you Tiff? I’m going crazy waiting.)

SquidsPro Squidoo Challenge

We’re on week four of the challenge and we also have our first mini challenge. The winner will get a Walmart gift card and second prize is a SquidsPro keychain. It’s a tougher challenge but at the end you’ll have a bunch of new lenses and a chance at a prize! More mini challenges with even better prizes will be showing up as the year goes on. I just don’t want to pass out all of the good prizes now and not have any for later. lol

I’ve also about finished my Squidoo guide but I’m putting off releasing it until February because I had to hire a new graphics guy and he’s working on all of that for me now.

Oh, and you can check out part four of my iDEAS xPRESS review. It’s a lot different than Squid Pro Quo but I really think Erica did it again with another awesome Squidoo guide.

Blog Update

I’ve got a bunch of great ideas for both here and SquidsPro because so many of you have been email me with questions. (Thanks!) I’ve got some more screencasts planned to show you how to do different things with your blog and Facebook page. You can always leave a comment if you have a question or idea for a tutorial/screencast.

That’s it for today!

What have you been up to lately?

  1. I’m so sorry your back is still causing pain! Physical therapy is always great, but can be hard work. I wish you well! I’m thinking about joining the zujava challenge. I just need to make sure I can really do it with all I have going on. 🙂

  2. I’m always hesitant to commit to more writing. I’m still finding my flow with it. 😉

I’m sorry your back is still in such pain. I remember when I threw mine out playing my first Texas Scramble and first time ever playing golf. Chiropractic, physical therapy and yoga got me going again.

What a complete nightmare the pain must be. I hope your back gets better soon.

Congrats on being able to get some work done. 🙂

  4. I’m in the same boat wahhh! My back’s acting up and it’s miserable. Stating to get annoyed. Trying yoga. I LOVE Walking Dead and can’t wait for its return (and SoA). Off to see the leaf because Daryl IS the best butt kicker ever.

  5. Sorry to hear of your back pain. I know what it is like. When I was only 25 yo I hurt my back lifting something heavy (as farmers do). Next morning I could not walk without 2 walking sticks. I was terrified that I would be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. I was taken to a Chiro, and have been going on an ‘as need’ basis ever since. I spent another 25yrs farming and then 16yrs ceramic tiling with no problem so long as I went to the Chiro as soon as the back pain started. Moral of the story? See someone ASAP. All the best.

    • I’m going to physical therapy but I’m also getting referred to a Chiro for long term care. Since this isn’t my first time hurting my back they figure I should get used to seeing one when it acts up.

  6. Hi Amanda

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Thanks for starting the Squids Pro Squidoo challenge. I have been enjoying it.

  7. Hi Amanda,

I hate hearing that you’re still suffering with back pain. Knowing just how that feels (as I was suffering from sciatica pain) – I know it can’t be easy for you when you want to sit and write, but can’t.

Hopefully this will clear up soon and you’ll get back in the game. How often will you go to the physical therapist? When you get there, ask them if there’s anything you can do at home to ease the pain, too.

    • I’ll be going once a week and next month I’ll be seeing a chiro as well. They suggested heat pads and they help a little bit not enough to keep me sitting up. I also have pain medication but I avoid taking it unless it’s REALLY bad. Partially because of how it makes me feel and partially because they can only give me a certain amount per month with the anti prescription narcotic rules around here so I have to make 14 or so last a month.

  8. I know what back pain is! I went to a chiro for years without much benefit, but when I started massage that helped and then when that quit making as much difference, I was referred to acupuncture and that made a huge difference!

However, my biggest problem lately is migraines. They run in the family and seem to be getting worse, more often. yuck.

  9. Amanda, sorry to hear about your back. That can be the worst when you’re working at a computer. I see a chiropractor twice per month since it got really bad on the truck.

I’m off the truck for the moment and was looking forward to dedicating those same 16 hour days to business so I won’t have to go back but my cold turned into the flu so I’m drugged up and bed ridden for today and tomorrow at least.

Will be kicking butt after that though. Just gotta clear the fog. 🙂

Hope you get feeling better soon!

    • I’ve been lucky enough to not get too bad of a flu. I was sick for a day and a half but it was pretty minor.

I’m going to start seeing a chiro next month. The doctor said I need to start physical therapy first.

  10. Amanda I hope it clears up soon. Back pain is debilitating because it’s almost impossible to get comfy. I’ve been seeing a chiro monthly for years and it always helps. Good luck with the physical therapy. Have you tried any deep heat type pads? They smell like a football locker room but are infused with oil that soaks in and really helps. I leave mine on for a day when I need to.
